Applying your purchasing power to Black-owned businesses this Juneteenth and beyond is one of the many ways to champion the Black community — and there are thousands of brilliant creators to support.
We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite brands that are sure to elevate your day-to-day, with products ranging from scrumptious snacks (birthday cake cookies, anyone?) to sustainable paper towels, colorful journals, and more. Scroll to start shopping!
How great is the word “superfood”? It’s food, and it’s super. Golde is with us on this one. The brand offers an assortment of products that will nourish your body and mind, including a make-your-own matcha kit, dietary supplements, and nutrient-dense face masks made with “100% pure superfoods like chlorella, mango juice, and papaya.”
Cay Skin combines skin care and SPF in its line of “silicone-free, vegan, cruelty-free, reef-friendly, and dermatologist-tested” products. This writer always keeps the Isle Glow Face Lotion in her purse for solid skin protection that doesn’t leave a white cast.
The name says it all for this one. Lifestyle brand Goodee values “good design, good people, and good purpose.” The Certified B Corporation’s products are not only gorgeous, but also consciously curated, and items can be shopped by categories like natural materials, community engagement, nature and wildlife conservancy, and carbon reduction.
Be Rooted’s colorful designs and inspiring messages are meant to encourage customers to “explore their inner muses.” Featured in publications like Marie Claire, Seventeen, and PopSugar, the uplifting company has everything from tote bags and beach towels to daily planners and even a glittery pool float.
Paper towels are convenient, but can sometimes feel less than Earth friendly, especially when they come sealed in single-use plastic. Reel’s paper products are made from recycled paper and sustainable bamboo pulp, come in recyclable and compostable packaging, and are free from dyes and inks.
Partake’s yummy snacks — double chocolate cookies, confetti pancake and waffle mix, and classic Graham-style crackers, to name a few — are all made with allergy-friendly ingredients and without artificial flavors or preservatives. Best of all, the brand donates a percentage of its proceeds to support families living with food insecurity.
Scotch Porter takes a “wellness-centered approach,” providing men with plant-based, non-toxic grooming products. The company is also committed to making a difference in the communities it serves, and 2% of all its U.S. online sales go toward organizations that support its four pillars of social impact: education, entrepreneurship, job training, and recidivism.
With inclusivity as one of its core values, Briogeo makes clean, high-quality hair products for every type and texture, and all are consciously packaged using recycled materials. The “Don’t Despair, Repair” deep conditioning mask is another one of this writer’s favorites.
Founded by fan-favorite actor Tracee Ellis Ross, hair care brand Pattern Beauty specifically celebrates natural curl and texture. It seeks to help those with curly hair reimagine their relationships with their tresses, while also empowering women and people of color: 1% of the proceeds from every purchase go toward one of four nonprofits that the customer can choose at checkout.
Oprah selected this company as one of her “Favorite Things” in 2021, and it’s easy to see why. Melissa Orijin wanted to find a doll that her young daughter, who was the only Black girl in her class at the time, could identify with, she told Oprah Daily. When she couldn’t, she decided to make her own line of multicultural dolls with varying complexions and hair types to encourage self-love in the little ones who cherish them.
Khiry’s stunning, structural jewelry is rendered in 925 sterling silver or 18 karat gold vermeil and many pieces are set with semi-precious stones. We’re completely enamored with the “tiny heirlooms” collection, which features delicate earrings like this tiny talon stud, set with a white diamond.
